Success on another front....

So I have currently given up on the PICkit for the time being, it was just starting to piss me off too much. I moved back to the Arduino and I have to say the software is so much easier to deal with. Here I have the code that I used and modified to get a digital input to turn on and off some led's. Very straight forward and easy to explain. YAY!

The headache is back

So the headache is back, but I think I have found out why. The reason I think this micro is not working is because there is no voltage going across the push button that I'm trying to use as an input. I'm going to solder some headers to the demo board that I have and have an outside power source to power the input. hopefully it works this time. At least the board still looks cool even though it was a failure. Another issue is that the code here is wrong in some way. It compiles just fine but I don't thing I need the goto section in the Start: category and I shouldn't need all the start up stuff up there as well. Hopefully I'll have a working model on Saturday.

No more headache, well not as bad...

So I have finally gotten my little board here to light up a led that's different than what the example was. For some reason when the code above is recompiled after a change the .HEX file is not overwritten. The most important part though is that I can go through the code line by line and explain how it works. It's all based in binary, well the bank switch is definitely binary. So in the code everything above Start: is gibberish still, but bsf sets whatever bit is in register STATUS, in this case it's bit RP0. So this means that we select bank one because RP0 represents the most significant bit for the bank address, so 0, and bsf represents the least significant bit, so 1. the total address is 01. So in binary it means 1. In the same way bcf means 0 for the least significant bit and so on. FUN!

Oh crap, what have I done?

Well, I guess it's official. I've got a webpage...... Like the title says, what have I done...? On a lighter note I guess since not very many people will be seeing this, I'm going to use this site to keep a running tab of all my little accomplishments in learning how not to shock myself. Hope it's fun...
